KWASU Students Commissioned Public Toilet in Malete to End Open Defecation

KWASU Students from the faculty of ICT, department of Mass communication commissioned a public Toilet with four room at the back end of Malete Market as a means to campaign and put an end to open defecation in Malete Community.



The community development project/service that was commissioned on the 31st of August, 2022 by different stake holders of the university relation and Malete community, in attendance is the KWASU Dean of Students affairs, Professor Moshood Jimba, Faculty of ICT Dean ably represented by Sub-Dean, Dr. Kennedy, Daud Malete, Iya Loja and Baba Loja Malete Market and others.


Mass communication, Head of department, Dr. Semiu Bello disclose that the project done by his Students is the practical aspect of Development communication course which involves preliminary investigation, planning and implementation and it cost nothing less than 4 Million Naira.

The director of Medical unit Kwara state university said Open Defecation as serious and Devilish implications on both indegene and Students that reside in Malete, she added that Open Defecation can cause Diarrheal, Malnutrition, blindness and also Hazardous environment.

KWASU Vice Chancellor ably represented by Professor Sunday Awe, the Director for center for Environment Technology and Management Study said Kwara state university is living up to it name and standard as a green university for Community Development.


Chairman Malete Market, Alhaji Ayinde from Alapo Community said the project is a great inventory and landmark in his tenure, he assure that there will be proper monitoring so those who sell and buy in Malete can use the Public toilet instead of using shortput, Bush side and other physical places.

A student of Mass communication department, Kabirat Adeyi said she is proud of the planning committee as well as her course mate, she emphasis that the Community members and Elders are really happy to be part of their project as they all feel involved.
